    Work Plan

      • Membership. Menswork aims to expand its membership, to seek more representation from groups such as: military, police, francophone, aboriginal, etc. to reinforce the fact that this is a provincial group. This could include meeting in different locations throughout the province, such as Miramichi, St. Stephen etc.

  • Francophone: Miguel, Norma - Acadian Peninsula Leopold Piette - contact him, explore having a meeting in the Peninsula. Concern about how this would work. Conversation with Leopold; also Kent County (Eva LeBlanc). One on one information sharing meetings. Northwest region, Natalie Cyr Belanger (Edmunston); Transition House, Family Violence Prevention Committee (through Regional Hospital). Bathurst Chaleur. Francophone part of CAAR, Therese Murray through Caring Communities. Bilingual summer student. What can I or we do? Regional meetings. Steve Turgeon
  • Aboriginal: Miguel - Diana Perley, Dan Ennis, Steve Turgeon. Bob and Steve, MOB
  • Regional (geography) - making sure each region is represented. Local committees, chapters. Ask respective communities what works best for them. Keep it as flexible as we can, and be open to suggestions and realities from each region. Kings, Carleton (Richard Blacquierre)
  • MAGMA
      • Partnerships. Menswork envisions ongoing relationships with other groups and organizations (including, but not limited to the Coalition of Transition Houses) to continue to 'get direction', thereby favouring a collective model for collaboration and organization. This also includes continued participation in existing projects and partnerships such as Silent Witness, PCPC, Minister's Working Group and The Fredericton Sexual Assault Crisis Centre, to name a few.
  • Hearing from stakeholders, potential partners at each meeting. This has been a good process and we could continue in this manner. List of potential partners. Derek Jones - what is MensWork - brochure? What is MensWork? Fact sheet? Pamphlet? Who does it? Something for the student? Communications package. Connect to DVCAG as a primary link in Saint John. Presentation from MensWork. Jim Miller, MMFF Saint John Chapter, Chris Doron
  • The Internet Human Development Council. <www.humandevelopmentcouncil.nb.ca>  Terrance R. Trites; CommunityLens Saint John
      • Social marketing. Menswork will look into doing more media related events.  As well, we need to identify possible media ally(ies) such as Paul Cassell (CBC radio) or David Lutz (Telegraph Journal). We need to explore where we might most effectively make our "presence known" through the use of our posters, such as Dooley's. We could also find "Champions" of our work, people with high public profiles who would identify themselves with and for us.
  • Promotional toolkit (student) bilingual business student who majors in marketing
  • "Events" - partnering with others such as Silent Witness. Can a man from MensWork be present, and speak. Miguel suggested the Book Launch.
  • Minister Green and Blaney: press conference Thursday the 19th, 11:30 discussion paper on domestic violence.
  • Media / Issue Watch. Responses to letters as above. Bruce Shanks responses.  Todays telegraph journal Regional reps. Support from Terrance, Sheri,
  • Posters: colleges and universities, Margaret Ann Blaney (Norma Dube)
  • Where are the posters?
  • Police departments
  • Other: Paul Cassell, David Lutz, Dooley's
  • Pay Equity letter, role of economics
      • Sustainability. Menswork does not want to compete for resources (financial) with other groups, especially women's groups. We need to look for in-kind contributions. We also need to assess the need for, and as needed, secure financial resources.
      • Activism. With the strategic guidance from our partners, Menswork would look at the issues (for example, wage disparity, poverty, and moving abusive men out of the home while the women and children remain) and the ways to create social change through policy-making, legislation and political activism (for example, arranging meetings with politicians such as Brad Green, Claudette Bradshaw, Minister Blaney)
  • Pay equity.
  • Domestic Violence Legislation Options. Feb 19
  • Protocols. Presence at official launches of government documents. Discussions with politicians. We are part of the Working Group - March 23
  • Contact with Minister Green
  • Student's paper. Starting point of discussion and "gift" for those with whom we meet. Translation - in kind.
  • Current and future legislation. Economic, shared parenting, child protection
  • Identifying 2 or 3 of these things and creating a communication strategy, and remembering to consult with our existing partners and members.
      • Networking. To continue building a network as a means to share information and resources
